Wild turkeys are found in hardwood forests with scattered openings, swamps, grassland. Turkeys are active during the day, roosting in trees from sundown until sunrise. In the winter they feed on sensitive fern, waste corn, and fruits such as barberry, rose hips, and dried apples.
